I have been working my way through my mother's and father's memorabilia and have Christine's birth announcement with a picture of "Christy and Skipper" and a note from "Beth" to my parents. Please contact me if you would like me to mail this to you. I'm just sorry I didn't come across this sooner.

I knew Miles back in the early 1980's but lost contact with him late in the decade. Ski, as we knew him, was a member of the Southern California Contest Club (amateur radio) many years ago, and we had met at one of the club meetings. Somewhere along the way, I learned that he also liked to surf. That was something I had always wanted to do but never had the opportunity. Ski invited me out to Ojai and told me that he would have me surfing by the end of the day. He even loaned me one of his boards. I can tell you that I was incredibly excited. But alas, it wasn't to be. While it was a gorgeous Southern California day, the surf did not cooperate. It was so flat that we never even put the boards in the water. Instead, we soaked up the rays and did some people watching. Thanks Miles. Even though we didn't make it on the water that day, it's a day I will never forget. All the best, my friend.

In OpsWatch we noticed that Miles would come out of his office and grab some coffee then walk around the outside of the building. We refered to that as the Miles mile. I'm pretty sure he put in more than one mile a day. At the beginning of his mile I would usually be on break and he always had a big smile and a funny comment. Really brightened up the day.

I remember spending a week or so with Aunt Susie & Uncle Skip in the Aug. 1977.  There was the most incredable metor shower that Uncle Skip and I sat on the steps in front of the house and watched, it wasn't one or two falling stars, it was like the sky was falling, I have never seen anything like it, and have never seen anything like it again and when I do see a falling star I think of Uncle Skip because of that time we shared. We just sat on the steps talking about "stuff", I was in middle school, but it was like talking to a friend rather then my Uncle.

I met a boy in the neighborhood, and he cleaned up one of their bikes so we could bike ride togther, he just was never to busy for any of us kids when we were around.  He even stayed up late one night since there was a movie I wanted to watch and I was on that age line of not sure if it was a good movie for me to be watching, it was "Lifeguard" with Sam Elliott.

I also remember how important it was when I introduced Rick to Aunt Susie and Uncle Skip that they approved of him, since I knew I would marry him one day.

When I was home this summer, I am so thankful for the day we spent in Ojai, Uncle Skip was tired but he looked good and I praise God for the time we spent together in family and fellowship.

Uncle Skip has always been part of my life, I can't remember a time he wasn't there.  He was a good man, he loved his family, he loved his God and I know our Father in Heaven had to have great plans for him to have taken him from us.  There is no pain in Heaven and for that I am truely thankful for, I know we will see you again in Gods Kingdom.

I love you!

Lisa

Letter from Skip written 12-16-1969 while in Viet Nam to his Grandparents:

"Mom informed me of the passing of your dear friend and it is really to bad but one must remember that they are now truly at rest and with God.  We all hang on as long as possible because life really is nice but compared to the life hear after, it is minor.  So we should not be troubled with their passing only jealous of their attainment of oneness with God.  Maybe I'm wrong but it is a nice philosophy to have.  We will miss them and this is indeed what bothers us the most".
